Almost a Year

I’ve been thinking about this blog lately, and what I wanted to share this month. For weeks I was thinking about how it would post on the last Monday of the month, February 29 … until I realized today that there isn’t a February 29 in 2021. And doesn’t that pretty much sum up what life has been like for the past year?

On February 29, 2020,  we were watching the news, hearing about the first cases of the coronavirus in Washington state and Northern California. I remember being nervous about my flight the next day to Nashville for the BEC Conference—the last time I traveled for work. The following weekend my family was in Cleveland for my son’s league championship swim meet—the last time I was in a crowd of people. My son was in school for one week after that before going online for, what they planned at the time, the next three weeks. That was the plan anyway, and three weeks quickly became the rest of the year.

But I don’t want to re-hash the past year of our lives. I prefer to look toward what lies ahead. And what’s lying before me right now is the upcoming March issue of USGlass, which is going to dive into some big topics. I can’t give too much away, but expect to learn more about the move toward automation and software and how these advances are changing the glass fabrication process.

Speaking of advances, we all know that that facades are becoming increasingly complex. Much of that continues to be driven because architects push the limits of what’s possible, challenging the glass industry to develop innovations that meet those demands. Tie in high-performance features with the aesthetics and you see just how impressive projects are becoming. Keep an eye out for more on that, too.

I truly believe that, though there may be some tough times before us, there is still plenty of good in store for us all. So let me close with some extremely good news.
