Farewell to Germs
Microban® International has partnered with HMI Glass to develop specialty glass products with built-in antimicrobial action for clean shower enclosures. HMI’s C.10 Glass Protectant is a clear coating for shower glass formulated with Microban technology for invisible product protection against the growth of microorganisms. It creates a bond with glass and works to actively help reduce the growth of microbes, for less mold, mildew and early product deterioration. The technology is incorporated into the glass manufacturing process, becoming a permanent feature of the molecular structure. It never washes off or wears away throughout the lifetime of the coating, according to the company. The glass protectant also repels water and oil-based substances, such as soap scum.
Introducing a Titan
Vitro Architectural Glass (formerly PPG Glass) has launched Titan Glass, a new oversized glass product for large-scale exterior insulating glass units (IGUs). Titan Glass is available with a range of high-performance magnetron sputtered vacuum deposition coatings. Titan Glass products are 130-by-240 inches, an increase from the maximum size of 130-by-204 inches previously available. Available initially in heavy thicknesses of 8 and 10 millimeters, Titan Glass can be manufactured with Solarban 60, 70, 72, 90 or R100 glass coatings for added solar control and clear, Acuity or Starphire glass substrates.
Gamco Corp. offers a new curtainwall system, CW250P. Utilizing a polyamide structural pressure bar to create a thermal break, the new curtainwall delivers 20% U-value improvement and, with certain insulating glass packages, is capable of U-values as low as 0.34 or 0.21, according to the company.
The 2½ inch CW250P, a stick-built system with concealed fasteners, is available in three back member frame depth sizes: 23/8 inches, 37/8 inches, and 5½ inches. All accept 1 inch to 11/4 inch glazing. Standard finishes are clear anodized and dark bronze anodized, with other custom color finishes optional.
Prelco now offers its Air-Secur glass solutions that provide high levels of bird protection, making them environmentally friendly and eligible for LEED® Green Building certification points, according to the company. Air-Secur silkscreened or digitally printed glass products allow users to combine different patterns to create visual markers for birds.
Get Your Deco On
Privacy Glass Solutions now offers Deco Glass, which the company says can transform the aesthetics of any environment. Available in tempered, annealed and laminated glass, polycarbonate or acrylic, the company can work with standard stock imagery, original royalty-free or licensed artwork. It also has designers available to help customers create something from scratch. The imagery is digitally printed to the highest standards directly onto the substrate. They can also produce a textured print to make the substrate stand out and even add Braille if required.
Unicel Architectural Corp., manufacturer of Vision Control, timber and aluminum curtainwalls and skylight solutions, has announced its Vision Control and ViuLite privacy and shading solutions have achieved a 45-minute fire-resistance rating. The rating includes the hose-stream test and uses newly developed steel trim kits in door applications from global safety certification company UL LLC. The company says the products meet UL fire-resistance-rated assemblies standards through the Unicel Architectural-manufactured steel trim kits that are combined with Pilkington Pyrostop fi re-rated glazing. These are offered with any of the company’s Vision Control, Vision Control Mini, and ViuLite products and are UL-listed in the U.S. and Canada.
Vision Control and Vision Control Mini are insulating glass units with integrated cord-free louvers providing control of vision, heat, light and sound. They combine louvers within glass that can be customized to virtually any shape for interior and exterior glazing applications. ViuLite is a system of blinds that are permanently sealed within a double-glazed cavity for a dust- and maintenance-free environment.
The Vision Control product passed American Architectural Manufacturers’ Association (AAMA) 501.8 performance testing for resistance to human impacts (2,000 foot-pounds) for window systems.
In addition, the company added the QuickGlide slider to its list of options. The slider has a slim design that blends in with the glass of the unit and provides control of the integrated cord-free louvers.
