Obituary
Fred Jayson, Bendheim
Alfred “Fred” Jayson, Bendheim’s second-generation owner and son-in-law of founders Sem and Margaret Bendheim, passed away on December 8, 2021. He was 100 years old.
Bendheim was founded in 1927 as an importer and distributor of colored art glass. Jayson assumed management of the company in 1965, and his sons, Robert, Donald and Steven, have been running the business since the mid-1970s.
Over the last six decades, Jayson had seen the company grow from 15 employees to over 100. According to the company, he also witnessed the establishment of vertically integrated glass fabrication facilities in New Jersey and a glass Design Lab in New York City.
Promotions
American Insulated Glass
American Insulated Glass LLC (AIG) has made multiple promotions within the executive leadership team based in Atlanta.
Clint Blair, who joined AIG in 2017, was named president. Formerly, he served as the vice president of operations. Darin Johnson was named vice president of operations. He previously served as the regional operations manager. Cameron Blair is the new director of operations over all AIG locations. He previously served as general manager of the Conley, Ga., fabrication plant.
In addition, the company hired Jason Williams as general manager of its glass fabrication facility in Birmingham, Ala. He will have full P&L responsibility for the facility as well as oversight of the sales, production team, quality, EHS and various operational support roles.
Vitro Architectural Glass
Vitro Architectural Glass (formerly PPG Glass) announced Daniel Sutton as the product manager for value added products. In this new role, Sutton will serve as a liaison between research and development, field teams and operations, in addition to customers and end-users.
He joined the Vitro commercial marketing group in 2017, providing project analysis, LEED® compliance documentation and customer support. In 2019, he became a national architectural manager and delivered product, technology and service solutions to architectural designers and other customers in commercial construction markets in the Great Lakes region.
Prior to joining Vitro, Sutton served as university sustainability officer for the Florida Institute of Technology. He is a registered LEED green associate.
Sutton holds a Master of Business Administration in sustainable business from Duquesne University and a Bachelor of Architecture from Pennsylvania State University.

Tara Taffera
Tara Taffera, USGlass magazine editorial director, has launched book two in her Christian romance series. Love Unfailing follows Love Ordained, which was published last year.
While her first novel was 20 years in the making, this process went much faster, she says. “It’s all about making it a priority,” says Taffera. “I set a goal to write a thousand words five times a week. Sometimes, I made it, often I didn’t, but I just kept plugging away.”
Taffera says she has learned a great deal about book publishing this past year. “Th ere is so much more to it than writing the novel,” she says. “It’s crazy the things I have learned about marketing a book. My life is busy now, but it’s fun, and I’m blessed to have this opportunity.”
Dawn Campbell
Dawn Campbell, art director and managing editor for Key Media & Research (KMR), the parent company of USGlass magazine and the USGNN newsletter, received the company’s 2021 Award for Extraordinary Service. Th e honor is presented annually and was named after vice president of media services Holly X. Biller, who has been with KMR for 25 years and epitomizes the definition of extraordinary.
Campbell, who has been with the company for 17 years, was presented with the honor by company president Debra Levy on December 10, 2021, during the company’s annual Christmas party. Campbell also received this distinction in 2010, making her one of the few two-time recipients.
In addition to designing layouts for KMR’s six publications, she also serves as the liaison for the printing of KMR publications.
Appointments
A+W Software
A+W Software veteran Renaud Schmitt is returning to the North American team as a cantor customer support specialist. He worked for A+W from 2005 to 2019.
In his new position, Schmitt will help customers troubleshoot any issues that arise, including remote and onsite visits to customers to implement upgrades or new software solutions.
Joel Allen also has joined the team as an application and professional services specialist. Allen was previously a business analytics, project manager and applications developer at Technical Glass Products (TGP) in Snoqualmie, Wash.
In his new position, Allen is responsible for troubleshooting customer support tickets as part of his application services specialist role. His responsibilities also include visiting customers to implement upgrades or new software solutions.
Pilkington, NSG Group
Pilkington United Kingdom Limited, part of the NSG Group, appointed Neil Syder to managing director. Syder has over 30 years of experience within the company, most recently, as head of operations.
He began at the company working in R&D in the 1980s, building experience in specialist glass coatings, running production lines and operational planning.
He is the second Syder to hold the position of head of operations at the company, moving temporarily to Sweden as a child when his father established the Halmstad plant.
Syder takes over for Matt Buckley, who retires after serving as managing director for more than a decade and having spent 30 years with the business.
Hegla Group
Ingolf Ripberger has joined Hegla’s current executive board members Jochen Hesselbach, Bernhard Hötger and Heinrich Ostendarp. Previously, Ripberger worked in a technical and commercial management role for the Saint-Gobain Group in Germany. He has degrees in electrical engineering and in business administration at RWTH Aachen.
Hötger became CEO of the Hegla Group on December 1. He will continue to be responsible for sales and marketing, and supervise the operation of the international subsidiaries and sales agencies.
Ostendarp will focus on strategic and operational product development, as well as the integration and further development of the subsidiaries and the product areas of tempering furnaces for safety glass, laser applications and software and automation.
Hesselbach will remain a member of the executive board, but will focus on his role as CEO of the 100% parent LEWAG Holding AG.
Additionally, two senior members have been appointed as authorized signatories. Josef Kusserow, head of production, and Georg Dressler, head of strategic purchasing, now represent the Hegla site in Beverungen.
New Hires
Virginia Glass Products
Virginia Glass Products and Virginia Mirror Company has named Angie Tweed as a regional sales manager covering Virginia and Maryland. Tweed joins the team with extensive glass and glazing experience, most recently being a part of an independent sales representative company in that territory.
Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance
Aaron Blom has joined the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) in the new role of technical training specialist. He will be responsible for conducting and developing FGIA’s professional education and technical training programs.
Blom most recently served as director of pre-construction for Architectural Preconstruction LLC. He also has experience as a Southwest sales representative for major projects, and as an outside sales representative for FGIA member, Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope®.
National Association of Manufacturers
Nathan Creech is now a member of the board of directors of the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM). Creech previously served as president of Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope®, a CRH company, and is currently president of building products there.
Roto North America
Roto Fasco Canada Inc. recently hired a new product application engineer, Marium Khan.
Khan completed her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a specialization in mechatronics from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. She also brings previous internship experience, specifically in the manufacturing engineering sector, where she gained experience in manufacturing processes, design and material coordination.
