Galloway says, “Changes in ASCE 7-16 eliminated most of the windborne debris region north of the Carolinas. Only the Eastern tip of Long Island and part of Cape Cod still require impact products for Risk Category 2. The area requiring impact-resistant products is larger for essential facilities: hospitals, police and fire stations, etc. Many of the states in the northeast have adopted the 2018 IBC, which references ASCE 7-16, so it is timely to explain the changes.”
