Juneteenth, observed on June 19, and as a federal holiday on June 20, commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. In cities across the country, people of all races, nationalities and religions join hands to acknowledge a period in our history that shaped and continues to influence our society today.

    It’s the least we can do, right? Slavery is our country’s original sin, and the repercussions of this “means of labor” still reverberate today. We, as a nation, need to collectively remember and honor those who suffered in the most heinous way imaginable if we are ever going to heal as a nation.
