Officials for REHAU announced in recent weeks that the company reached its circular economy and climate protection goals over the past year — specifically those about recycling and reducing CO2 emissions.
The company’s 2021 sustainability report, depicting values and activities for newly established REHAU Industries and REHAU Automotive, shows “notable progress,” officials said while outlining strategies for sustainable growth, circular economy, climate protection and diversity. The goal for driving a circular economy and increasing its recycling rate to more than 15% by 2025 (compared to the fiscal year 2016) has already been achieved, the company reported, as well as the target for reducing CO2 emissions by 30% compared to the base year 2018.
“We are particularly pleased that we managed to take further decisive steps based on our sustainability strategy last year. Meeting targets makes us proud and spurs us on even more,” said Dr. Uwe H. Böhlke, CEO of REHAU Industries SE & Co. KG.
In 2021, REHAU began the development of “holistic tools for evaluating progress in this field of action,” officials said, resulting in a REHAU Circular Scorecard, which comprises 12 categories in the areas of energy, product, production and society. With the Circular Scorecard, existing products can be reviewed and further developed in terms of sustainability.
“REHAU Automotive has decided not only to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2025 as planned, but to be 100% CO2 neutral by then,” says Dr. Markus Distelhoff, CEO of REHAU Automotive SE & Co. KG.
Future projects at the product and company levels are being evaluated concerning upstream and downstream emissions, the company reported.
