Smart windows have been selected for phase two of The Interlock, a $750 million mixed-use property being developed by SJC Ventures in the West Midtown neighborhood of Atlanta.
The windows use artificial intelligence to adjust automatically in response to the sun. This maximizes natural light while ensuring thermal comfort and energy efficiency. The smart windows will enclose all the offices in the building.
The windows, which are designed by View Inc., a designer of smart windows, provide occupants with a healthy and sustainable environment.
“The vibe at The Interlock is all about tech, sustainability, and natural light. View doubles down on all of those attributes,” says Jeff Garrison, principal at SJC Ventures. “The tenant feedback and market reaction to the View installation at phase one were both so positive, it made including the technology in phase two an easy decision.”
Studies have shown that people who work in offices with smart glass report less eyestrain and are less prone to depression. Additionally, participants slept 27 minutes longer after working in an office with smart glass installed.
Phase two of The Interlock is scheduled to open in early 2024 and will offer 275,000 square feet of commercial space and 180,000 square feet of creative office space, plus 670 beds for Georgia Tech student housing.
The recently passed Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, the country’s most ambitious energy and climate policy to date, extends the Investment Tax Credit to include smart windows.
