Saint-Gobain Partners with Swiss Solar Manufacturer, Megasol

Saint-Gobain has partnered with Megasol, a Swiss solar manufacturer, to help extend its sustainable solutions for facades and become a leading provider of BIPV façade solutions in Europe.

As part of the partnership, Saint-Gobain acquires a minority stake in Megasol’s business unit that develops and manufactures building-integrated photovoltaics in Deitingen, Switzerland. These facade systems provide high performance and a reduced carbon impact thanks to less embodied carbon and lower energy requirements for a building in use.

“Thanks to the aesthetic design of Megasol’s products, it’s fully customized,” says Patrick Maier, CEO of Saint-Gobain Switzerland. “We are extending the scope of our applications, allowing significant growth for Saint-Gobain’s total facade solutions.”

Megasol produces photovoltaic modules, offering colored and customized solar facades as well as solar tiles and solar roof systems. The company employs 140 people in Switzerland and has a foothold in 18 countries. The investment by Saint-Gobain gives Megasol access to the French company’s customer base.

“With its sustainability strategy and immense expertise in glass and building envelopes, as well as its global presence, Saint-Gobain is the perfect partner to rapidly scale our business with our active solar building materials,” says Markus Gisler, CEO of Megasol.
