Saint-Gobain Glass was named the 2022 Glass Company of the Year at the G22 Awards in London and one of its employees was awarded the 2022 Unsung Hero award.
The G22 Awards are an annual award ceremony celebrating the best of the glass industry. More than 450 people from the glass and fenestration industry attended the ceremony, the organization states.
“Once again, we have seen how the real leaders have come to the fore when they were put to the test,” says event organizer Tony Higgin. “The winners this year were the ones who excelled themselves in the face of all the challenges that 2022 has sent.”
Saint-Gobain’s recognition is a result of its commitment and investment in the glass industry, the company says. The award specifically recognizes Saint-Gobain’s investment of $36 million at its facility in Eggborough. The investment includes a new float glass furnace and refurbishment and redevelopment of associated areas of its factory.
“The investment has secured the long-term supply of consistently high-quality, high-performance glass for the UK’s glazing and window industry, cementing the company’s position as a critically important supplier to the sector,” says Saint-Gobain.
The company also recently donated a combined $250,000 in materials to schools in the U.S. and was recognized for its efforts to empower and promote women.
Furthermore, G22 awarded Saint-Gobain production specialist Will Ruane the Unsung Hero award for his role in the installation of the glass furnace at the Eggborough facility. Ruane joined the company as an intern in the finance department and now holds a senior management position in float glass manufacturing.
“This is a fantastic achievement for the whole team and hugely rewarding for Will,” says Steve Severs, Saint-Gobain Glass’ managing director. “The G22 Award comes immediately after winning two awards at the Glass Focus Awards where our project ‘The Spark’ was awarded Design of the Year – Flat Glass. We also won the Strengthening Business Through People Award. These four awards have been won for our work and achievements during a couple of difficult years and demonstrate the commitment and resilience of the team – as well as the team’s continued passion for the industry.”
