Case Study Project: Smart Glass Technologies

Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital, New York, N.Y., has enhanced its capability to care for patients thanks to PriWatt Smart Glass from Smart Glass Technologies (SGT).

PriWatt Smart Glass offers active privacy, increased productivity and optimizes space, says CEO William Vasile Turcan. The glass can become transparent or opaque at the flick of a switch, blocks damaging radiation, is easy to clean, offers extra security, decreases energy consumption, is eco-friendly and boasts biophilic properties.

Turcan explains that Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital chose PriWatt Smart Glass because it provides several benefits for employees and patients.

“My favorite benefit is the emotional state when the glass is transparent; patients can see other people around them, reducing feelings of isolation and promoting a sense of connection with the outside world,” he says.

He adds that PriWatt Smart Glass offers:

Observation Without Contamination

Cross-contamination from highly contagious pathogens such as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a growing problem in hospitals. A key benefit of switchable privacy glass is that hospital staff can easily observe a patient by flicking a switch without risking cross-contamination of infectious diseases.

Increasing Patient Privacy

Switchable electric glass offers the advantage of improved patient privacy in medical facilities. The switchable smart glass panels can easily be changed from clear to opaque, ensuring an increased level of patient privacy in examination rooms, patient rooms and operating theatres. The glass can be controlled with a variety of devices and can be easily configured to work with a smart home through Z-Wave technology.

A Hygienic Alternative to Curtains

Switchable glass is simple to clean and maintain, making it a hygienic alternative to traditional hospital curtains and blinds. Harmful germs can easily gather on the surface of curtains and are difficult to sterilize.
