Şişecam Expands EPD Certified Product Portfolio

Şişecam has expanded its Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) product portfolio, which covers the entire flat glass product range. The company announced it now has 11 EPD certifications for various flat glass products, including clear float glass, tinted float glass, ultra clear float glass, extra clear float glass, online coated glass, offline coated glass, patterned glass, solar glass, mirror, lacquered glass,and laminated glass.

An EPD is an independently verified and registered document that shows a product’s environmental impact, which can be measured by Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). EPD evaluates the environmental performance of a product or service defined in accordance with the ISO 14025 Type-III standard based on many impact categories under the ISO 14040/44 standard.

Şişecam was the first company in Turkey to issue an EPD. It received the certificate for its flat glass group in 2018. In 2022, Şişecam implemented and published its EPDs as part of an initiative with Metsims. This effort aimed to register Şişecam’s sustainable products, manage sustainability expectations for the company’s entire value chain and provide an LCA approach and LCA/EPD literacy training workshop.
