The 2023 AIA Conference on Architecture Showcases
Glass Industry Products and Services
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2023 Conference on Architecture is headed to San Francisco, bringing a wide selection of new products, technologies and more. The event is scheduled for June 7-10, 2023, with the Expo taking place June 8-9, and plenty more to see and do. Flowers for your hair are optional.
The full event will include more than 165 seminars, at least 20 workshops, and upward of 100 architect-led tours of San Francisco’s distinctive architecture. Capping it all off is the Expo, which AIA calls “the networking hub for the AEC industry.” Hundreds of companies, including many serving the architectural glazing industry, will bring their newest products and materials. Here’s a peek at what just some of those companies will offer.
Booth #1928: Avery Dennison
Avery Dennison offers a portfolio of architectural films for commercial, industrial and residential buildings and will provide information about its Design and Smart Film portfolio of films, including Dusted Crystal and Vela. The company will also showcase safety and security window films that provide protection for people and property, and how solar films can improve energy efficiency, reduce glare and improve tenant wellness.

Booth #935: C.R. Laurence
C.R. Laurence will showcase new door elements. The company is bringing three new luxury shower hinge lines for frameless shower doors. The new hinges feature designs with matching brackets and snap-on covers that conceal the screws. The new European-styled shower hinge lines, Bellagio, Como, and Lugano, are available in matte black, brushed nickel, satin brass and chrome finishes. According to the company, each line of shower hinge has been tested to 100,000 cycles.
In addition, CRL will have the CRL DRX modular door rail system. The patented system deconstructs a standard door rail into independent parts, which the company says gives architects, designers and installers greater control over when and how door rails are installed, adjusted or updated. Side covers can be slid on after construction to protect the finish. Four-inch tapered side covers are available to meet ADA requirements.

Booth #2026: Dreamwalls
Dreamwalls Innovative Glass will offer its latest products for interiors, including backpainted glass, glass marker-boards, laminated glass and mirrors with various interlayer options. The company also offers sandblasted mirrors for LED backlighting, antique or tinted mirrors for a touch of elegance, and tempered glass or mirrors for safety. The company’s products are also available on MasterSpec, SpecLink and MaterialBank.

Booth #5677: Frameless Hardware Co.
Frameless Hardware Co. will feature its Precision Lock Plus adjustable glass
railing and its Aspire insulating glass entrance door. The company says the adjustable glass railing allows the installer to adjust the glass for plumb quickly, easily and without specialized tools. The railing has a full range of top rails, hand rails, fasteners, drain blocks and cladding.
In addition, the Aspire offers thermally broken door rails and vertical door stiles with polyamide strut thermal barriers between inside and outside aluminum extrusion members. The entrance doors have narrow width vertical door stiles, and a gasket and clamping force control mechanism that protects the insulating glass edge seal.
The door handle hardware connects directly to the glass, providing a heavy glass door appearance. The insulating glass entrance door rails and stiles are available in standard and custom clad finishes, with a pivot alignment system in both top and bottom door rails.

Booth #1963: International Union of Painters and Allied Trades
The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, District Council 16 has partnered with the Northern California Glass Management Association and the National Architectural Glass and Metal Association to show how the IUPAT leads in education for glaziers and for industry professionals including architects.
The association will offer information on an upcoming training center tour, with hands-on options to participate in glass cutting and sealant application. The tour, which takes place June 7, provides four hours of AIA HSW LUs and will focus on the glazier apprenticeship training, journeyworker certifications, and industry certifications such as the North American Contractor Certification and the Architectural Glass and Metal Technician Certification.

Booth #1268: JEI Structural Engineering
JEI Structural Engineering will feature its team of professional engineering (PE) experts in glass, glazing systems, building envelopes and façades. According to JEI, its PEs are trained to communicate well and problem-solve difficult designs. The company says its entire team of PEs has extensive knowledge of glazing systems, panel design, window blast, submerged glass or animal enclosure viewing.

Booth #1951: PAC-CLAD-Petersen
Users of the PAC-CLAD Modular AL wall panel system from Petersen can create unique metal cladding surfaces using panels of various sizes, depths and colors. Designers can specify standard panel sizes or define dimensions and depths to create unique patterns. The company says vertical or horizontal panels can be combined on the same layout. Modular AL panels can be finished in any combination of the PAC-CLAD colors and perforated, including patterns that spell words or form logos, shapes or images. The panels can be installed on plywood, insulation, purlins or a combination.

U.S. Bullet Proofing (USBP) will highlight its ballistic, blast, forced-entry and storm impact high-security aluminum door and window solutions. Product and glazing samples will be on hand as will information on specifying products that can fortify building security in schools, government buildings, industrial facilities, police stations and more.
Quikserv offers transaction windows and pass-through systems and will be co-located with USBP. The company will feature secure transaction system solutions designed to enhance safety.

Booth #241: YKK AP
YKK AP America Inc. has expanded its high-performance thermal systems with the new T Series entrance systems. Designed to provide a clean aesthetic with a narrow sightline, the T Series was designed with new guidelines, such as those by the International Energy Conservation Code, in mind, and exceeds U-factor requirements.
The series includes three entrances: the 25T (narrow), 35T (medium) and 50T (wide). Each entrance features a number of options, including 2-inch door leaf thickness; 10-inch bottom rails with seven various options for mid-rails; 1-inch IGU standard; up to 1¼ inch available; and, mill-free transom kits.
