AkzoNobel has developed new software with coatingAI that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to help customers improve the coating application process and reduce their carbon footprint.

AkzoNobel officials say the software, Flightpath, updates equipment settings to reduce defects and overspray and improve powder consumption. It calculates the ideal settings for the reciprocator, considering the exact powder and piece being coated. This helps reduce costs, avoid reworks and saves energy.

“The collaboration with AkzoNobel has helped to accelerate our vision since day one,” says coatingAI CEO Marlon Boldrini. “Our solution, built on the power of AI and AkzoNobel’s technical expertise, will not only increase efficiency for their customers but also drive greater sustainability within the powder coatings industry.”

Officials say the software was in development for two years. It optimizes equipment settings, such as gun motion, to achieve a more uniform, consistent coverage with fewer flaws. The software doesn’t require complex integration, and as conditions change, it continually adapts its recommended parameters.

The news follows the launch of AkzoNobel’s energy savings calculator for all users of powder coatings.
