Continuing education for architects is coming to Uniondale, N.Y. (Long Island), and architects are invited to attend at no charge. Architects’ Forum™ 2019 will be held at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale, N.Y., March 28, and will provide a day-long program of AIA Learning Units (LUs) courses.

Architects’ Forum is organized by Architects’ Guide to Glass & Metal magazine to provide architects the opportunity to meet with colleagues and gain essential education about glass and metal products and applications.

The first course, “How Structural Silicone Spacers Contribute to Sustainable Window Design,” will be led by Joe Erb, commercial sales specialist for Quanex Building Products. This seminar is presented by Gold Sponsor, Quanex Building Products, and runs from 9 – 10 a.m.

The program offers 1 LU/HSW credit hour and focuses on utilizing the latest silicone technologies for commercial façades. Its primary focus is on achieving optimal/green building design through improving energy efficiency, long-term durability and waste reduction. It will cover insulating glass history with a focus on structural silicone spacers and their significance to energy efficiency and sustainability design in glazing. At the end of the program, participants will be able to identify at least three characteristics of flexible silicone spacers that promote durable/sustainable glazing design.

Joe Erb has more than 24 years of experience in the fenestration industry. He has degrees in mechanical engineering technology and industrial engineering technology from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, and is a long-time active member of the fenestration industry, assuming leadership roles in various organizations. He also has regular blogs and columns in USGlass magazine, as well as other construction industry publications, and gives technical presentations globally to some of the largest national and international architectural and consulting firms.
