A German-based photovoltaic manufacturer has issued a warning claiming that a Chinese company has counterfeited its solar modules.

Bauer Solar GmbH made the claim on LinkedIn, stating that the company has repeatedly received reports of fake Bauer solar modules circulating throughout the international market. The most recent case involves a Chinese company that has produced and shipped counterfeit 420 W glass modules.

Bauer officials say to be on the lookout for suspicious packing. The module’s original packaging is typically strengthened with wood at the bottom of the pallet. However, the wooden reinforcement on the fake module pallets is missing. Officials add that the prices for the modules are lower than normal.

“Although duplicates are proof of a brand’s relevance, they are and remain a major nuisance in the competitive solar market,” said officials. “We will, of course, investigate the matter further.”

Officials explained to PV Europe that the counterfeit modules have not undergone any quality controls by accredited testing bodies and, therefore, do not have any certifications that guarantee the safe use and durability of the products.
