Michael Tierney was awarded the Richard A. Hudnut Distinguished Service Award for his commitment and dedication to the Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA). Tierney was BHMA’s standards director and contributed to the association for more than 20 years. He retired at the end of May.

BHMA officials say he was recognized by colleagues for his exemplary performance, integrity, outstanding dedication and strong commitment to the BHMA standards and code development process.

“Over the last 25 years, Michael has been a major contributor to the positive culture and success of BHMA,” says Ralph Vasami, BHMA executive director. “He was outstanding to work with–demonstrating exceptional insight, dedication and talent throughout his years with us. Michael was a staunch advocate of the industry and BHMA and a reliable supporter of his team. He knew from experience how to gain consensus and move initiatives forward. He will be sorely missed.”

Tierney departed BHMA as a principal member on technical committees for the National Fire Protection Association, the ICC A117.1 Committee for Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities, and ASTM International.
