It’s tough for a new product to stand out in any industry. Yet all of the products featured below (and more appear in the August issue of USGlass on page 110) come from companies that have been innovating for at least half a century. Here we’re profiling new offerings from trusted names as well as the “oldie but goodie” products that have been favorites for decades.

Focus on Acid-Etched Glass and Mirror

AviProtek T HRWalker Glass in Montreal has an extensive history stretching back to 1942; the company has been involved in the glass and mirror industry in North America for more than 70 years, continually investing in innovation. In 2002, the company began anew with the launch of a full-surface acid-etched glass and mirror product line, known in the market as Walker Textures. Since then, the company has added different acid-etched product lines. In addition to the custom and stock patterns Walker Textures Nuance, there is also a line of anti-slip acid-etched glass products, Walker Textures Traction. In the last 12 months, Walker has developed three bird-friendly glass solutions: AviProtek, AviProtek E, AviProtek T. The newest addition to its product line — to be introduced in September 2015 — is a gradient acid-etched glass, Walker Textures Transition.

Valspar Celebrates 50 Years of Fluropon

The Valspar Corp. in Minneapolis is celebrating 50 years of Fluropon 70 percent PVDF resin-based coatings. Since the flagship architectural coating launched in 1965, Valspar says its Fluropon exterior coatings have become an industry standard for both metal coil coating and aluminum extrusion applications.

In 1965, Pennwalt’s corporate headquarters in Philadelphia was the first project to feature Fluropon commercially. The building was brown, one of only five colors available at the time. Today, there are more than 50,000 active code offerings, from neutral to bright colors, micas, metallics and pearlescent coatings.

With its high durability and large color palette, these 70 percent PVDF resin-based coatings are offered in two- to four-coat systems in nearly any formulation, including low gloss, low sheen and solar reflective Energy Star. Meeting the AAMA 2605 high-performance exterior specification, Fluropon demonstrates resistance to harmful ultraviolet rays, chemical degradation, abrasion and humidity.

A New ADA Window Solution

GT6200-SL-WindowJPGThe GT6200 SL single-lever operator window — a new choice for operable windows in accessible spaces — is the latest product offering from Graham Architectural Products in York, Pa. The company was founded in 1960 as part of Graham Engineering, a supplier of architectural windows.

The latest addition to the company’s GT6200 Series, the GT6200 SL is an outswing casement with single-lever hardware designed to operate with minimal force and limited motion requirements, like those specified by AAMA 513-12 (less than 5 pounds operational force). The GT6200 SL can also be configured to meet the NYC Falls Prevention criteria.

Like all of the GT6200 Series windows, the GT6200 SL features Euro-Groove design, dual color (two-tone) capability and a polyamide strut thermal break system for superior U-values.

The window has achieved an AAMA AW-PG125 rating, a 15 psf water test and U-values as low as 0.29.

A Timeless Multi-Slide Door

A favorite of builders for more than two decades, the Series 600 multi-slide door from Western Window Systems in Phoenix was designed as a centerpiece for indoor-outdoor living. Founded on the company’s legacy of quality manufacturing that began in 1959, the door’s ability to completely open up to the outdoors is made possible by smooth-moving rolling glass panels that can be stacked at the opening or tucked away into pockets for unobstructed views.

A clean, contemporary design allows the Series 600 to blend easily with a wide variety of home styles. Additional features include heavy-duty stainless steel ball bearing rollers, dual-paned low-E glass manufactured using thermoplastic spacer technology for improved energy performance, and a medium stile with a 2 ½-inch interlock for additional rigidity and strength. Options such as flush and water barrier sills, a screen and countless sizes, configurations and finishes allow the Series 600 to be customized to fit any project, according to the company.
