Two Days of Countless Opportunities for Industry Education

More than 90% of past regional Glass Expo attendees say they came away having learned something new and 85% have indicated they will return to future expos. They’ll get that chance at Glass Expo Northeast™ ’22 (GENE), set for Wednesday, April 6 and Thursday, April 7 at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale, N.Y. GENE ’22 will again bring together glass and metal industry leaders for two exciting days of informational seminars, networking and trade show action. GENE is co-sponsored by the Long Island Glass Association (LIGA), USGlass magazine, USGNN™ and Architects’ Guide to Glass & Metal.

Trade Show and Networking

Eighty-three percent of attendees to regional glass expos say they were able to connect with new suppliers while on the trade show floor, a testament to not only the quality of exhibitors but also the convenience of the show. This year’s event will be no different, with approximately 100 exhibitors set to participate in the biennial trade show.

Some of the exhibitors this year include AGNORA, a fabricator of jumbo-sized architectural glass; ClearShield Technologies LLC, which will be on hand with their products that renovate, protect and maintain glass through all levels of the supply chain; and Door Controls USA, a supplier of automatic and door replacement parts.

A number of first-time exhibitors will also be at the show. These companies include Walker Glass Company, a supplier of acid-etched glass, bird friendly glazing and premium quality mirror products; Skyreach Equipment, which has partnered with SmartGroup America to offer what it calls the smallest glass robot with a reach of more than 18 feet; and Select Hinges, which offers continuous hinges for new or retrofit high-traffic doors.

Exhibitors and attendees can also enjoy the welcoming cocktail party on the show floor, set for 5 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6.


Multiple educational seminars also span the two-day show. The sessions begin on Wednesday, when Debra Levy, publisher of USGlass magazine, presents a Northeast economic outlook for the glass and glazing industry. Her presentation will provide attendees with industry-specific research, and a regional forecast for commercial and residential glass and metal industries.

A number of other sessions will take place on Wednesday. Founder and president of JEI Structural Engineering Stewart Jeske, P.E., will address glazing system delegated design, which he calls “… one of the most misunderstood and overlooked areas in glazing system design.” Next, Alberto Alarcon, marketing specialist with Kuraray Trosifol® interlayers, will then address new standards and building code requirements in relation to the post-breakage performance of glass. Greg Galloway, ProTek® brand manager for YKK AP America Inc., follows with a look at hurricane impact resistance with respect to aluminum glazing systems. The latter two sessions both provide American Institute of Architects Learning Units (AIA LUs).

Wednesday’s seminar line up concludes with everyone’s favorite body language expert, keynote speaker Janine Driver. She returns to GENE, once again delivering methodologies for reading body language, an advantageous skill for hiring, retaining and leading sought-after professionals.

The seminars and education continue Thursday morning. First up, Levy will moderate a panel discussion called “Crisis Aftermath—Supply Challenges.” Panelists include Amber Deimler, vice president of sales for Demountable Concepts Inc./MyGlassTruck; Daniel Plotnick, international and domestic accounts manager for Vitro Architectural Glass; Jeff Wilkins, chief operating officer, AGNORA; and Barry Wood, vice president of marketing and commercial development of Wood’s Powr-Grip. The session will offer a look at lessons learned since COVID, new procedures, future implications of the crisis and more.

In the event’s final educational session, representatives from Door Controls USA will cover the advantages of utilizing economical hardware and contract estimating.
