Tucson, Ariz.-based Glaz-Tech Industries announced it will make a $4 million capital investment with the establishment of a new glass manufacturing facility in Baton Rouge, La., a move the company asserts will create 50 new direct jobs. The facility will manufacture and distribute glass products across a 400-mile radius along the Gulf Coast.

Glaz-Tech produces tempered safety and insulating glass for residential and commercial construction markets, including products for mirrors, shower doors, decorative surfaces, doors, windows and enclosures.

The company acquired a 25,000-square-foot manufacturing building for the expansion, where it is completing renovation work and building a 15,000-square-foot addition. Glaz-Tech will begin hiring and initial operations by September and will complete its expansion project within the next six months.

“On behalf of Glaz-Tech Industries and its employees, we are excited about the opportunity to establish a successful and productive glass manufacturing facility in Baton Rouge, La.,” says Glaz-Tech president Pete Fazlollah. “We firmly believe with a combination of quality glass products and knowledgeable staff that we can build a profitable and strong foundation for our customers. We are proud to embrace our eighth location of Glaz-Tech Industries and are equally ambitious to begin serving Baton Rouge and its surrounding areas.”

According to a release from Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, the project’s direct jobs will provide an average salary of $34,000 per year, plus benefits, and Louisiana Economic Development (LED) estimates the project will result in an additional 97 new indirect jobs, for a total of more than 140 new jobs in region.

“Louisiana continues to attract a broad array of manufacturing companies focused on our state’s growing economy,” says Jindal. “At a time when more people are employed in Louisiana than ever before, we are proud that out-of-state investors continue to look to Louisiana as a growth market while making significant investments in our economy and creating quality jobs for our people.”

Since the company was established in 1990, it has expanded with additional locations in Phoenix; Denver; Salt Lake City; Albuquerque, N.M.; El Paso, Texas; and Boise, Idaho.

To secure the most recent project, LED offered Glaz-Tech the utilization of its top-ranked state workforce development program, and the company is expected to use Louisiana’s Quality Jobs and Industrial Tax Exemption programs.
