Henry Rupp “Hank” Groves of Groves Inc. and one of the founders of C. Gunther Co., passed away Wednesday, June 29.

Born April 7, 1938, he spent more than 50 years in the glass industry and was 78 years old at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann, who co-owned Groves Inc. in Illinois and was also a founder of C. Gunther Co. She passed away in 2012. They were married for 52 years.

Groves, of McHenry, Ill., co-founded C. Gunther in 1980. The company created and distributed Gunther Mirror Mastic and other mirror accessories. C. Gunther also served the fire industry by providing heavy duty wire shelving for personal protective equipment drying and storage.

In 1994, Groves dissolved his interest in C. Gunther and started Groves Inc., retaining the fire service and material handling side of the business. He also developed material handling and storage equipment for the glass and mirror industry and eventually created a stone division.

“Hank was a wonderfully positive man who relished his family, friends and customers,” says Ken Hegyes, chairperson of Capital Tape. “His creativity and élan will be missed.”
