The Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance (IGMA) 2013 Annual Conference program will feature a number of technical presentations along with working groups that focus on the newest innovations and emerging insulating glass (IG) technologies. The technical presentations will focus on the latest testing and highest IG unit quality. The conference is scheduled for February 5-8, 2013, at the Crowne Plaza Astor in New Orleans.

“The presentations this year keep attendees on the leading edge of our industry,” says Margaret Webb, IGMA executive director. “Especially important is the presentation by Chris Barry of Pilkington North America. His presentation is an absolute must for anyone looking to understand how to design and test IG units.”

Barry’s presentation is titled “How to Calculate Glass and Sealant Stress in IG Units.”

Steve Selkowitz of Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory will share a building science R&D program encompassing “Windows, Daylighting, Simulation, Commercial Building Performance and Demand Response.” His presentation will cover development and testing of highly insulating, easy-to-install windows that use automated shading that can capture or repel heat depending on the season.

Dr. Werner Wagner of Sika – Germany will present “European Gas Loss Testing and Related Benefits.” Dr. Wagner will compare the European methods to those used in North America. Another presentation titled “Use of 4th-Surface Coatings in a Cold Climate” will be presented by Tim Clancy of Guardian Industries.

“Many companies are beginning to utilize 4th surface coatings to maximize energy efficiency in IG units. Guardian undertook an extensive third-party test program to understand the real-word factors that influence in-field performance and energy efficiency,” says Clancy.

“IGMA will embrace the history and atmosphere of New Orleans in many unique ways,” adds IGMA president Dave Cooper of Guardian Industries Corp. “A big draw for our annual conference is New Orleans itself, naturally. IGMA has always had a signature style at our events to bring out the best networking opportunities for our members, along with a signature event. New Orleans will be no different – you just have to be there to understand.”

Networking opportunities will include a Masquerade Ball.

Registration for the event is now available online at the IGMA website at A discounted early-bird registration fee is available to all who register by January 6.
