Quanex Building Products and Deceuninck North America are among industry companies participating in today’s Manufacturing Day 2017. It’s a nationwide effort to inspire interest in modern manufacturing among the next generation of professionals.

Quanex will open the doors of its Cambridge, Ohio, manufacturing facility, home of Super Spacer and Dura warm-edge spacer systems, to student groups from Guernsey and Noble counties. Through conversations with Quanex experts and a full tour of the facilities, participating students will get an in depth look at what modern manufacturing is all about.

“Our industry is facing a critical labor shortage, and there’s nothing more important right now than getting into our communities and inspiring interest in manufacturing as a viable and fulfilling career choice,” said Todd Haney, Director of Operations, Quanex IG.

Quanex’s participation in Manufacturing Day 2017 is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to invest in the local community. Quanex works closely with the Community Improvement Corporation (CIC), an organization working to keep youth in Guernsey County after they finish secondary and post-secondary schooling. The company frequently hosts manufacturing camps and tours for middle school and high school students, with the goals of encouraging them to take on full-time employment at Quanex after graduation.

“Guernsey County offers a pro-business mindset, affordability, and an educated workforce, and it’s why we’ve continued to expand our spacer manufacturing capabilities here,” Haney said. “With its comparatively small population, investing in the local workforce is very important part of our business.”

Additionally, Quanex’s Woodcraft Industries will be participating in the 2017 Central Minnesota Tour of Manufacturing event on October 7. The doors will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tours, questions, employment opportunities or more.

Deceuninck North America is joining the Chamber of Commerce Serving Middletown, Monroe and Trenton to celebrate Manufacturing Month this October with a series of educational student tours.

Manufacturing Month is an extension of the nationally celebrated Manufacturing Day. Deceuninck North America hosted a plant tour for students on Thursday in Monroe, Ohio, and will conduct other student plant tours on October 12, 19 and 26. A maximum of 20 students per group will be allowed to take part in the tours.

Additionally, Deceuninck will host an open house at its Monroe facility on Tuesday, October 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event is open to students and parents as well as the broader community.
