Intertek has completed the acquisition of Professional Service Industries Inc. (PSI), an engineering and testing firm that provides integrated quality-assurance services within the construction market. The acquisition recently gained regulatory approval, and the transaction was finalized on November 23.

PSI’s capabilities include infrastructure, geotechnical, materials testing, facilities engineering and environmental assurance. The acquisition comes on the heels of Intertek’s purchase of MT Group, a materials testing and specialty construction firm in New York.

“The combination of services that Intertek and PSI can offer is a significant development for the industry,” says Gavin Campbell, Intertek’s senior global vice president of building & construction. “We are now fully engaged, supporting both building product manufacturers and building construction developers of commercial, industrial, and residential buildings, as well as infrastructure projects such as highways and railroads, allowing us to get closer to customers, and diversifying our testing and assurance service portfolio across the building product and project lifecycle.”

PSI operates 100 testing laboratories in the USA.

“Joining the Intertek family is a huge development for PSI, our customers, and our industry,” adds Murray Savage, CEO of PSI. “By leveraging Intertek’s domestic and global footprint, its field testing, and building commissioning services, we are able to offer a more complete solution to the industry. Our customers will be able to gain immediate benefit from the extended service offerings as we work to find new ways to partner with them.”

PSI has leading positions in the U.S. commercial and civil construction markets, offering a broad range of testing and assurance services related to the construction of non-residential building and non-building structures. Headquartered in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., and founded in 1961, PSI has approximately 2,400 employees.

Intertek offers fire, thermal, acoustical, air/water/structural, and large-scale mock-up testing, combined with a suite of certification services, including product listings through the ETL and Warnock Hersey Marks, code compliance verification through Code Compliance Research Reports (CCRRs), and engineering services. Intertek offers building commissioning services, from whole-building air leakage testing to on-site forensics evaluations. The company has more than 20 laboratory locations throughout North America.
