See You in September

By Debra A. Levy

September has traditionally focused on learning since it’s still considered the “back to school” month and the start of the fall education season. This year is no exception with the GlassBuild America show (see more on page 82) in Atlanta upon us and the smaller Glass Expo West (see page 126 and insert) on deck for early December in San Diego. Educational events such as these are important. They give us information for sure, but they also challenge our assumptions about what the future will bring. And they offer a great heads- and leg-up on new products and processes.

Most times, the best education is what you learn from others who face the same challenges you do. I can’t tell you how many times I have been at any industry event only to hear one attendee asking another, “How do you handle that?” Getting an answer from someone who has been there is invaluable. Education is also like a long, hot bath for your brain. It renews it, restores and readies you for that future. It’s also one of the only things, along
with your experience, that you can never lose—no one can take it away from you, nothing can destroy it. You are your education and it is you. And events like these are fun, too, and great ways to see industry friends and meet some new ones. So my hope for you during this fall education session—east and west—is that you get to participate and are glad you did. I am pretty sure you will be.

If you get a chance, please stop by and see us in Atlanta. I, along with our editors and staff, will be manning Booth 2812 at the Georgia World Congress Center. Please come over, say hi and let me know what you’ve learned.
