Kingspan Group has reduced its scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 65% since 2020. Kingspan is the parent company of Kingspan Light + Air North America and Solatube International Inc.

Company officials say Kingspan reduced its scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 40% in 2023 alone. It also increased investments in operational and process improvements at sites worldwide to accelerate progress toward carbon, onsite energy generation, rainwater harvesting capabilities and waste reduction targets.

“To play our part in keeping global temperature rises within the 1.5 degrees Celsius limit, we committed to absolute emissions reductions and focused on making tangible short- to medium-term progress through our Planet Passionate program,” says Bianca Wong, global head of sustainability. “In a business like Kingspan, that is only possible with significant structural and time investment and an unwavering dedication to delivering real results.”

Officials say Kingspan Light + Air’s Wausau, Wisconsin, manufacturing facility has saved more than 345,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions since a solar photovoltaic roof system was installed in May 2023. The achievement is equivalent to planting 2,611 trees or generating over 200 megawatts of electricity.

Additionally, Solatube International’s Sunny Vista, California, headquarters and manufacturing facility is illuminated by its own tubular daylighting devices during daylight hours. Officials say this results in reductions in energy consumption and associated costs, enhanced employee productivity and well-being due to increased natural daylight and a marked decrease in carbon emissions.

Kingspan was also included on the globally recognized CDP Climate Change A List, which recognizes environmental leadership through transparency and meaningful climate action. Kingspan was one of just 346 companies to make the list.
