Glass industry veteran Leo W. “Red” Barber passed away March 9, 2016, at the age of 97.

1758444_profile_picBarber owned Barber’s Glass & Manufacturing Co. Inc. for more than 43 years and had locations in Oklahoma City, Okla., and Wichita, Kan. At one time, during the 1960s and 1970s, his company was the largest independent glass company west of the Mississippi. He installed windows, storefronts and automobile glass.

Barber invented and patented sliding back glasses, which were originally developed for use in oilfield equipment. They were manufactured at his company in Oklahoma City and were shipped worldwide. Today, sliding back glasses are available for most trucks.

He is survived by his brother Clyde Merle Barber; daughters Billye Stein and Beverley Bevins; their husbands, Jerry and Mike; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
