Thomas Chen, founder and chairperson of Crystal Window & Door Systems, was named one of Schneps Media’s 2020 Kings of New York. The award recognizes top businesspeople, civic leaders and non-profit managers for their outstanding contributions in industry, politics, arts, culture and religious work, as well as their impact on their communities.


The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) has named two winners of its Richard A. Hudnut Distinguished Service Award: Don Baker, global vice president of engineering at Allegion, and Jeff Trull, coordinator of standards at Assa Abloy.

This award recognizes exemplary performance by individuals identified by their peers as having a strong commitment to the BHMA standards and code development process.

Key Media & Research

Bryan Hovey, web developer for Key Media & Research (KMR), parent company of USGlass magazine, received the company’s 2020 Award for Extraordinary Service. The honor is presented annually and was named after vice president of media services Holly X. Biller, who has been with KMR for more than 20 years and epitomizes the definition of extraordinary.

“Bryan Hovey has been a contributing member of the KMR team for more than two decades. His constant drive to better our digital product line continually impresses,” said company president Debra Levy. “Bryan plays an integral role in each department and assists in so many ways.”

Comings and Goings

Glaston Corp.

Juha Liettyä, a member of Glaston Corp.’s executive management group and senior vice president of Glaston Heat Treatment Technologies, has left the company. Liettyä joined Glaston in 1986 and had been a member of the executive management group since 2007.

Vice president of emerging technologies Miika Äppelqvist has been appointed senior vice president of Glaston Heat Treatment Technologies and a member of the executive management group. Äppelqvist joined Glaston in 2013 and has held various positions, including director of Glaston’s Architectural Business Unit and marketing director.

The company also named Susanna Kohisevankoski its new senior vice president of people and culture, as well as a member of the executive management group. Taina Tirkkonen, current general counsel and senior vice president of human resources, will continue as general counsel and a member of the executive management group.

Syracuse Glass Co.

Syracuse Glass Co. (SGC) president John Dwyer is transitioning his leadership responsibilities to newly hired CEO Joe Gudenburr as part of a designed succession plan. Dwyer will continue as SGC’s chairperson of the board and provide ongoing support.

Dwyer joined SGC in 1984 and has been president since 2005. Throughout his career, Dwyer was highly involved with the Glass Association of North America, serving as a board member, president in 2003-2004, and Centric president from 2014-2017. He was awarded the C. Gregory Carney Member of the Year Award in 2016 and IG Division Member of the Year Award in 2014.

Gudenburr has more than 30 years’ experience in the sales and marketing, manufacturing, supply chain, service, logistics and distribution arenas. He joins SGC from Sprague Energy, where he was the division general manager.

Sherri Doucette was hired to lead sales and marketing in New England. She has extensive architectural glass and metal experience from prior roles at Tubelite Inc. and SIGCO.


ASTM International

Julia Schimmelpenningh, architectural applications technical manager for Eastman Chemical Co., will serve a three-year term on the ASTM International board of directors. An ASTMInternational member since 1992, Schimmelpenningh serves as chair of the performance of buildings committee (E06). She has also been chair of the security systems and equipment committee (F12). Before joining Eastman, a global specialty material and chemical company, in 1988, Schimmelpenningh held positions at Solutia Inc. and Monsanto Chemical Co. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Emmanuel College.

Trade Associations

The National Glass Association (NGA) has announced four new board members serving three-year terms. Joining the board are Denise Bardwell Baker, Spring Glass & Mirror of Spring, Texas; Chris Dolan, Guardian Glass of Auburn Hills, Mich.; Silas Koonse, Koonse Glass Co. Inc. of Columbia, Mo.; and Courtney Little, Ace Glass of Little Rock, Ark.

Board officers for the 2020-2021 term are chair, Cathie Saroka, Goldray Glass of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; chair-elect, Guy Selinske, American Glass & Mirror of Prior Lake, Minn.; treasurer, Doug Schilling, Schilling Inc. of Galion, Ohio; and immediate past chair, Chris Bole, Pikes Peak Glass Inc. of Colorado Springs, Colo.

New Hires

Morse Industries

Morse Industries has hired Marc Scerba as its new Northeast regional sales manager and Jerry Holstrom as regional sales manager for the Central U.S. Scerba returns to the company after nearly a year away. He previously worked at Morse for more than ten years in the sales department. Both men will manage accounts in their territories to ensure all customer needs are met, according to the company.

Walker Glass

Walker Glass has added two new members to its sales and marketing team: Vito Ventulieri and Marion Pynn. Ventulieri joins the customer service department as client business partner. He will support the department’s mission to serve and grow the Quebec and Ontario markets, and has over 20 years of customer service experience. Pynn is Walker’s new content strategist, responsible for developing the company’s online voice.


Vitro Architectural Glass

Vitro Architectural Glass (formerly PPG Glass) has named Chris Fronsoe to national architectural manager for the Northwest region. In this role, Fronsoe will provide sales and service support to architects, specification writers, glazing contractors, façade consultants and Vitro Certified fabricators for the commercial construction market in Washington, Oregon and Idaho, as well as British Columbia and Alberta.

Ensinger Building Products

Ensinger Building Products, a division of the Ensinger Group in Germany, has appointed Carl Lafreniere as sales manager of Eastern Canada and the Northeastern United States. Lafreniere has more than ten years of experience providing technical solutions and components to the fenestration industry.


Scott Knisely is now Viprotron’s president for the North and South America regions. Knisely has more than 12 years of experience serving customers looking for equipment solutions in the glass fabrication sector. He previously worked at Bystronic Glass as vice president of sales and marketing before becoming president in 2012.

C.R. Laurence

C.R. Laurence (CRL) has named Steve Whitcomb to senior vice president of operations. He has more than 25 years’ experience as a CEO and senior leader in the building products, distribution and construction products industries.

Goldray Glass

Laura Little is the new vice president of sales and marketing at Goldray Glass. Little joined Goldray’s marketing department in 2014, and previously was a sales representative for the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada.


Shari Robinson is AGNORA’s new vice president of sales and marketing. Robinson will guide, build and mentor AGNORA’s sales and marketing teams to capture an increased share of the oversized architectural glass market. Robinson has held senior sales and marketing positions for PwC, KPMG and The Economist.

Frameless Hardware Co.

The Frameless Hardware Company (FHC) has appointed Tony DePalma director of business development and Danny Donahue as brand manager, frameless shower hardware.

DePalma previously served as vice president of product group sales at C.R. Laurence. In his new role, DePalma will oversee the integration of sales and technical support in developing and managing a team focused on customer service, large projects and new business development.

Donahue started his career as a glazier, specializing in heavy frameless showers for over a decade. Most recently, he assumed director and brand manager positions overseeing the frameless shower technical division at C.R. Laurence spanning over 20 years.



Rehau has promoted Dr. Thomas Troeger from chief marketing officer to chief executive officer of the Americas region. Troeger is part of the regional executive board of Rehau Americas, headquartered in Leesburg, Va. Troeger has been with Rehau for 14 years, moving through various positions with increasing responsibility, including being named director of the North American furniture solutions business division in 2013 and then vice president of the division for the entire Americas region in 2015. Troeger joined the regional executive board in January 2019 as chief sales and marketing officer, with all the company’s non-automotive business divisions reporting to him.
