EFCO Corporation

EFCO has promoted Marc Donahue to vice president of sales. The company has also named Jarrod Myers its product manager for curtainwall and storefront products.

Donahue was most recently the senior sales manager for the Eastern region. Twenty-six years ago, Donahue founded MJD Associates in Upstate New York, where he and his team were consistently one of the top producing sales agencies for EFCO. In the last year he sold MJD.

Prior to starting his business, Donahue held roles as a project manager and estimator at B&M Glass in Syracuse, N.Y.

Myers joined EFCO in 2012 as the quality systems supervisor and has since been the project management supervisor.

United Window & Door Manufacturing

Chris Derrico was promoted as United Window & Door Mfg.’s new vice president of procurement. Previously, Derrico worked as vice president of customer experience. In that position he implemented protocols which have improved efficiencies in many departments, according to the company.

Associations

AEC

The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) has announced the results of its annual election of officers and directors. The following were elected:

Brook Massey, president of MI Metals in Oldsmar, Fla., AEC chairperson;
Brook Hamilton, president of Bonnell Aluminum in Newnan, Ga., vice chairperson on the executive committee;
Scott Kelley, president and CEO of Service Center Metals in Prince George, Va., immediate past chairperson; and
Matt McMahon, president of Pries Corp. in Independence, Iowa, past chairperson.

In addition, Jeff Henderson was re-elected to the nonvoting position of president of the Council. Two new members of the board of directors were elected:

Craig Werner, vice president of extrusion technology at Kaiser Aluminum, extruder director; and
Matt Schicke of Rio Tinto Aluminium, at-large director.

Appointments

Frameless Hardware Company

Gary Sprague has been appointed to vice president of design and development for Frameless Hardware Company (FHC). In his new role, Sprague will steer research and new product development, and will also oversee FHC’s testing and certification programs. Previously, Sprague served as vice president of design and engineering at C.R. Laurence for 20 years and as a manufacturer and designer of products supplied to the glass and glazing industry for 14 years.

Quanex Building Products

Quanex Building Products has hired Kim Garcia as vice president of human resources. Garcia has more than 20 years of experience most recently as vice president of human resources for Memorial Hermann Health System. Prior to that, she held leadership roles in human resources, supporting medium- to large-sized companies in a variety of industries.

Tubelite Inc.

Tubelite Inc. has named Jim Hughes as client development manager for Maryland, northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. Hughes joins Tubelite with more than three decades of experience in the glass and glazing industry. He began his career at Harmon Inc. as a senior sales associate. Most recently, he worked as an account manager at Schüco USA.

Apex Façade Systems

Kamil Kropac joined the Apex Façade Systems team in the role of general manager on April 2, 2020. Kropac has more than 37 years of experience in fenestration and glazing. His leadership will be key in the next phase of growth for Apex Façade Systems, including strengthening sales and the development of new products, according to the company.

YKK AP America

Yassir Chbouki has been appointed to the position of controller at YKK AP America. He is responsible for ensuring high quality internal efficiencies and integrity in YKK AP’s financial reporting, according to the company. Most recently, he spent 13 years at Blue Bird Corp. in Macon, Ga., where he managed capital budgeting, cost accounting, financial reporting and forecasting.

Obituaries

George Stathopoulos, owner of Ajay Glass, died April 17, 2020 at the age of 85. Stathopoulos, born in Greece, moved to the U.S. via Canada in 1961 and began his glazing career at Mac’s Glass in Rochester, N.Y., before working at Ajay Glass in 1964. In
1968 Stathopoulos bought into the company as a partner and became a majority owner in 1978.

The company consistently ranks on the list of USGlass magazine’s top 50 glazing contractors and Stathopoulos’ three sons have now taken the helm.

He is survived by his wife, Eleni; sons, Demetrios, Constantinos and Stelianos; stepchildren, Michael Naselaris, Steve Naselaris and Penny Naselaris; siblings, Alex, Elpiniki, Irene Tasikas and Soula Giannopoulos; grandchildren, George, Niko, Rita, Evan, Peter, Ellie, Georgie, Nicole and George.

Douglas Sampsel, who was vice president, Southeast for Trulite Glass & Aluminum Solutions, died on April 18, 2020 at the age of 76. Sampsel began his career in the glass industry in 1968 at Libbey Owens Ford in Toledo, Ohio. In 1982 he and his family moved to Atlanta, where he and a business partner purchased Tempered Glass Inc. The company eventually became a part of United Glass Corp. before joining Trulite Glass and Aluminum Solutions.

Sampsel is survived by his wife, Linda, and children, Matt (Joyce) and Megan (Rob Case).

Richard (Dick) Reinhart died on April 27, 2020 at 77 years old. Reinhart spent many years at Southwest Glass & Glazing in Albuquerque, N.M. He was also active in the Glass Round Table group of West Coast glass-related companies, which began in 1980. Reinhart was elected Knight of the Round Table in 1997.

Reinhart is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda; son, Steven Reinhart and wife Kristie of Lubbock, Texas; daughter, Traci Hertrich and husband Robert of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren, Ryan and Temple Reinhart, Chase and Lauren Bailey, and Gavin and Grayson Hertrich; brother, Tony and wife Geri; and sisters-in-law, Cynthia Devlin, Dian Pack and Sharla Reinhart.

New Hires

dormakaba

Alex Housten has joined dormakaba as its new chief operating officer for the access solutions Americas segment, which includes businesses in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and South America. He will serve as a member of the dormakaba Group executive committee, and will be based in the company’s Americas headquarters in Indianapolis. Before joining
dormakaba, Housten held progressive leadership positions at Carrier Corp., a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (UTC). His most recent role was as vice president and general manager of Carrier’s Fire and Security Products Americas business.

Viprotron

Viprotron has hired Sandra Kugler as its new sales manager for Europe. Kugler started her career in the glass industry approximately 20 years ago at A+W Software. She then moved to Saint-Gobain as area sales manager, responsible for several regional markets in Europe. She later returned to A+W as process consultant and sales manager for Central Europe as well as key accounts. Most recently, she was area sales manager for Bottero’s flat glass division.

SAFTI FIRST

Archon Fenestration Technologies LLC is now representing SAFTI FIRST in Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. Principal Doug Urich is a 32-year veteran in the architectural glass and architectural aluminum industry.

Glaston

Jeff Giles has joined Glaston North America as a regional sales manager. Giles spent 25 years with Benteler Mechanical. Based out of Indiana, Giles will support U.S. customers in the Midwest and eastern half of the country, along with applications relating to his expertise in the automotive industry.

Kudos

Houston Area Glass Association The Houston Area Glass Association has named Mario Ortiz of Lonestar Facility Services its Glass Professional of the Year. Terri Gilmore of A3 Glass Fabricators presented the award to Ortiz at the Houston lunch meeting in February 2020.
