Syracuse Glass Co. president Joe Gudenburr passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023, following a battle with cancer. He was 53 years old.

Gudenburr was named Syracuse’s CEO in 2021. He was an accomplished business executive with more than 30 years of experience leading and growing businesses in the sales and marketing, manufacturing, supply chain, service, logistics and distribution arenas.

“I had had the privilege of witnessing Joe’s smooth transition into the role of CEO and the difference he made in two short years,” said John Dwyer, board chairperson of Syracuse Glass, in a company statement. “Evidencing his professionalism and commitment, Joe actively worked through the last few months during cancer treatment and only stepped back from the business last week as he entered hospice care.”

Dwyer added that he has reassumed the role of CEO on an interim basis.

Gudenburr joined Syracuse Glass Company from Sprague Energy, where he was the division general manager for a $150 million delivered fuel business. Prior to Sprague Energy, he spent nearly 16 years as the president and chief operating officer of G.A. Braun Inc.

Gudenburr was also the vice president of sales, marketing and product development for the Buckbee-Mears Group and executive vice president of global operations for Vision-Ease Lens. He served in the U.S. Army and held a Bachelor of Science in general engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point.

He is survived by his wife, Joanee, and his children, Joey and Jacob.

  1. My deepest sympathies to Joanee, Joey, Jacob, and our friends at Syracuse Glass. I was fortunate enough to meet Joe when he came to visit our facility in Connecticut. As military veterans, Joe and I hit it off pretty well the first time we met. His professionalism, thoughtfulness and kindness showed through in our discussions. The passing of Joe is a loss for many people, as I am sure he touched many lives in his 53 years.

  2. How was a wonderful man, great demeanor and attitude. He’ll be missed immensely. Prayers and thoughts to his family.

  3. I was blessed and privileged to work for and be mentored by Joe. He was a great boss and an even better friend. I witnessed him revive, boost, and transfer GA Braun, Inc. from an antiquated struggling equipment manufacture (in my opinion) into a global leader. He was amazing, fun, kind, and will be missed. When I go, I only pray I made an impact on someone like Joe did me!!!
