Lake County Glass is closing its doors at the end of 2023. The Willoughby, Ohio-based company was incorporated in 1961 but has been operating since the 1920s. It provides various commercial and residential services, including producing storefronts, insulating and plate glass replacements, and safety glazing, among others.

Lake County Glass president Ed Trepanier says the company is closing mainly due to retirements. He says there are four employees set to retire. It was always a small shop, he explains.

“Had we been able to hire, train and retain younger employees through the recent years, we would probably not be closing at the end of this year,” he says. “Ideally, there would have been someone to carry forward after our retirements.”

Trepanier says there were many memorable moments, people and projects throughout the years. However, he says that many “glass people would probably agree that all of the changes we’ve seen in the industry have had pros and cons.”
