Lantern House

Heatherwick Studio in the United Kingdom designed the Lantern House residential building for the Related Companies in 2015. Completed in 2021, the project’s two towers, one rising 21 stories, the other 10 stories, are located on each side of the High Line in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood. SLCE was the architect of record.

According to Heatherwick Studio, they wanted to create a “new type of residence: one that was reminiscent of the area’s existing historical buildings, designed and built for permanency.”

To develop the lantern-like façade, the team adapted the idea of a bay window to create “a double-height, stacked bay window held between robust brick piers.”

New Hudson Facades was the façade contractor and AGC Interpane supplied the fabricated glass.
