Deron Patterson is hardly a stranger to the benefits of insulating glass and high-performance low-E glass to building sustainability.

A 14-year veteran to the U.S. glass industry, Patterson’s new job as PPG’s international sales manager, flat glass international for Latin America/the Caribbean is to continue passing on that knowledge to those outside the U.S. Only not just in Mexico as had previously been the case, but also now in Central, America, South America and the Caribbean.

“I’m very excited about it,” he says. “This move just kind of makes sense. I know the importance of insulating glass and low-E, and I hope to educate the architects there, the builders and the designers about these products.”

The Sugarland, Texas-based Patterson had been handling architectural accounts in Texas, Louisiana and Mexico for the past seven years, while also conducting strategic business development for PPG flat glass in Mexico.

In his new post, he will retain his sales and business development responsibilities in Mexico while expanding his territory to include customers in Central and South America and the Caribbean, according to a company release.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how the market accepts these products there,” he says.

Patterson appears to be well-equipped for the challenge, if previous indications are to be believed. The Mexican market has come a long ways since he first began working there, with insulating glass and low-E glass now making up some “20 to 30 percent” of the country’s bigger projects, Patterson says.

“I totally expect the same thing in South America,” he says.

Patterson won’t exactly be starting from scratch. He’s already very familiar with Mexico and has previously traveled to El Salvador. His wife hails from Brazil.

William Klingensmith, PPG’s leader of flat glass, international, is confident Patterson is the right man for the job, which will largely consist of commercial work with some limited residential.

“Deron’s knowledge of the commercial construction market, expertise within the high-performance architectural glass industry, language skills and glass sales and marketing experience will serve him well in this expanded role.”

As a LEED® Green Associate since 2010 and a member of the Texas and Louisiana chapters of the U.S. Green Building Council, Patterson has made hundreds of presentations about the role of high-performance glass in promoting sustainable building at top architectural firms throughout his sales territories.

He also is a board member of the Texas Glass Association and a member of the Texas and Louisiana chapters of the American Institute of Architects and Construction Specifications Institute.

Patterson earned a business degree at Texas State University-San Marcos before receiving a master’s degree in theological studies from Southern Methodist University.

He’s excited about his latest responsibilities.

“My job will be educating the architects and everybody I see there,” Patterson says.
