The National Fenestration Rating Council’s (NFRC) board of directors approved two documents that are now open for public review according to the American National Standards Institute’s (ANSI) process. The public review and comment period is open until April 8, 2024.

The two documents submitted for public review, comment, and the full ANSI consensus process are:

  • NFRC 200: “Procedure for Determining Fenestration Product Solar Heat Gain Coefficient and Visible Transmittance at Normal Incidence,” and
  • NFRC 500: “Procedure for Determining Fenestration Product Condensation Index Ratings.”

The documents for review (with changes from previous versions shown in underline/strikethrough format) are available on the NFRC Documents in Public Review page.

The announcement that these documents are open to public comment appeared in Standards Action on Feb. 23, 2024, marking the beginning of the open public comment period. With the documents being available electronically (via the links above), the comment period is 45 days, ending on April 8, 2024.

All changes subject to public review have been previously balloted and approved by NFRC membership and its board of directors.

Meanwhile, officials said the NFRC committee overseeing the review process needs a new member in the General Interest category.

More information on the Standards Committee, including the application to join the committee and details on requirements and other categories, may be found on the NFRC Community website.
