George Wilson

Quanex Building Products Corp. has announced that George Wilson, Quanex’s chief operating officer (COO), has been elected by the company’s board of directors to succeed Bill Griffiths as Quanex’s president and chief executive officer (CEO). Wilson will also join the company’s board, all effective January 1, 2020. Griffiths will remain as executive chairman of the board and will continue to support Wilson through the transition.

Prior to Wilson’s appointment to COO in 2017, he served as president of insulating glass systems from 2011-2017, and in the 18 years prior to joining Quanex he held various operational and financial positions of increasing responsibility at Lauren International and Federal-Mogul.  Wilson holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Akron.

“I am pleased and honored to succeed Bill as the company’s next CEO,” says Wilson. “I would like to thank Bill for his tireless efforts in transforming our company and for all of his support in preparing me for this next step. Quanex is a great company with a bright future, a clear vision and a strong leadership team. I am excited for the opportunity to continue to work with Bill, the board of directors and the entire Quanex team to drive safety and continuous operational improvement, and to create value for our shareholders, customers and employees.”

Bill Griffiths

After serving as a director on the Quanex board for a number of years, Griffiths took over as president, CEO and chairman of the board in July 2013. Through his vision and leadership since that time, Quanex has undergone a transformation, according to the company, moving from what was essentially a holding company for multiple disparate product lines to a strategically focused company that is now easily identified as a supplier to OEM’s in the fenestration and cabinet markets.

“It has been extremely rewarding to lead this company over the last six years, and working with the board to successfully conclude an internal succession plan has been satisfying,” says Griffiths. “George is the right person to lead Quanex into the future. I look forward to continuing to support George and his executive team as we continue to refine and execute on the company’s strategy.”

Joe Rupp, lead director, adds, “On behalf of Quanex’s board, I want to thank Bill for his leadership as CEO as he has steadfastly improved the company over the past six years. Since stepping in as CEO in 2013, Bill has transformed Quanex into an industry-leading pure play building products manufacturer that is very well-positioned for continued success. George’s strong operational and financial experience has served Quanex well over the years. His understanding of our markets, combined with his proven track record of success, uniquely positions him to lead the company going forward. We are confident that Quanex will continue to thrive under George’s leadership.”

In addition to Wilson taking over as president and CEO, there have been other moves within the executive leadership team recently.

Scott M. Zuehlke now serves as senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer. He joined Quanex in 2016 as vice president of investor relations and treasurer, and has most recently been serving as interim chief financial officer. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston.

Paul B. Cornett has been appointed as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. He joined Quanex as a staff attorney in 2005 and has held various positions of increasing responsibility, most recently serving as vice president and deputy general counsel. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Rice University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School.

Mark A. Livingston is now vice president, chief accounting officer and controller. He joined Quanex in 2019 as vice president and controller. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas and is a Certified Public Accountant.
