glasstec Set to Return to Messe Düsseldorf for 2022 Event

Glasstec, the international trade fair for glass production, processing and products, will not take place as originally rescheduled for June 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, plans are already in the works for the event’s return in 2022. The next glasstec will be held in line with its regular cycle, September 20-23, 2022 at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The event was originally scheduled for October 2020, but was rescheduled for June 2021. However, according to Erhard Wienkamp, managing director of Messe Düsseldorf, staging the event successfully on the planned dates in June still could not be guaranteed under the given circumstances.

“On March 3, the German Federal-State Conference decided to further extend the nationwide lockdown. Based on this decision and due to the current level of infection rates and the associated international lockdown restrictions, we cannot guarantee holding the event in the accustomed format and quality,” he said. “Especially as a result of the travel restrictions, glasstec, with its high percentage of international exhibitors and visitors, would not be able to live up to its standing as the world’s leading trade fair for the glass industry. We have re-assessed the situation with our partners and jointly decided to cancel glasstec in June at an early stage. Our priority is the planning security of our exhibitors, visitors and service providers. All activities will now be focused on the successful staging of glasstec 2022.”

For 2022, the organizers are also working on a hybrid trade fair experience in order to offer digital participation in conferences and special shows such as glass technology live. Online exhibitor registration for glasstec 2022 will open in June 2021.
