Virginia Glass Products Employee Crushed to Death by Glass

An employee of Virginia Glass Products was killed on April 23, 2019 after several hundred pounds of glass fell upon him, according to the Martinsville Bulletin. It is not known how long he was under the glass.

The Associated Press reports that 24-year-old Damarcus Laquan Calloway was loading the glass onto a truck when it fell and crushed him at Virginia Glass Products’ facility in Ridgeway, Va. He was given medical treatment at the scene before being airlifted to a hospital in North Carolina, where he was later pronounced dead. Calloway’s funeral was held April 30, 2019 in Danville, Va.

The Virginia Department of Labor and Industry is investigating. The initial investigation could take up to six months to be completed.

No criminal charges were brought as the incident has been determined to be an accident.

Virginia Glass Products fabricates all-glass entrance doors, mirrors, glass shower enclosures and architectural tempered and laminated glass.

As of press time, the company had not responded to USGlass magazine’s
request for comment.
