Vesuvius’ latest innovation is Smartly Driven™ Plus Rolls. The new design of glass tempering roll brings greater accuracy, tighter tolerances, is much stronger and somewhat lighter than the existing designs, according to the company. It is the follow-up to Smartly Driven endcaps, which were designed to withstand the high temperatures needed to produce tempered, low-E glass. Smartly Driven means there is no glue or resins used, often a weak point in processing.

Structure and Efficiency

Kawneer Co. has introduced its new Insulpour thermal entrances featuring IsoPour thermal break technology. Suitable for high-end commercial and multifamily facilities, Insulpour thermal entrances offer high thermal performance, strength and interior and exterior dual finish options for increased design flexibility. It merges the pour-and-debridge thermal break with polymer isolator technologies. Both the door and the frame employ the technology to create assemblies that offer structural performance, enhanced energy efficiency and design flexibility. With sightlines that match non-thermal doors, the entrance is available in 250T narrow, 350T medium and 500T wide stile options. Additionally, multiple cross-rail sizes and bottom rail heights are available.

Fire-Safe with Clarity

Safti First’s SuperClear 45-HS (hose stream) and SuperClear 45-HS-LI (hose stream-low iron) are new products that pass NFPA 252/257, UL 9/10B/10C and ULC/CAN4 S104/S106 for fire safety and CPSC Cat. I and II, ANSI Z97.1 Class A and B and CAN/CGSB Class A and B for impact safety. Listed and labeled by Underwriters Laboratories, SuperClear 45-HS and SuperClear 45-HS-LI can be used in 45-minute doors up to a maximum clear view area of 3,288 square inches and in 45-minute sidelites, transoms and openings up to a maximum clear view area of 3,880 square inches. Both meet all the fire, hose stream and safety requirements without the use of wires, films or laminates. Both versions are ¾-inch optically clear glazing. SuperClear 45-HS-LI has an approximate visible light transmission of 90 percent, compared to 88 percent for premium filmed ceramic and 85 percent for premium laminated ceramic.

Intermac introduced Sophia in the North American market on selected machine models at the beginning of 2019. The Internet of Things app and cloud-based software management tool help users achieve higher productivity by providing them with an easy-to-use dashboard containing real-time visibility of machine status, performance and functionality, according to the company. Sophia provides a comprehensive overview of specific machine performance features with remote diagnostics and constantly updated statistics. Sophia is also fully integrated with Biesse’s new Parts portal, which gives customers 24/7 access to the replacement parts they need.

Key Performance

A new production management intelligence solution from Isra Vision enables glass manufacturers to increase process transparency and optimize workflows. The production speed can be maximized without sacrificing quality, making the manufacturing process more flexible. The solution delivers data analysis and key performance indicators, merges data from inspection systems and production plants and intelligently links them together. This allows production processes to be optimized by increasing the line speed while maintaining the same quality, according to the company. The industry-specific software immediately checks various production and quality data from the manufacturing processes, condenses it and uses it to generate valuable information. Inspection results and process parameters are displayed in clear cockpits that are available standard or with custom options. Detailed information or graphical overviews are available, making the program universally applicable. It is also a “plug and play” application—ready for use straight away, producing results immediately and is easy to operate without expert knowledge, according to the company.

Light in the Darkness

Halio smart-tinting glass is designed to look like natural clear glass until it tints to darker neutral grays to block solar heat and reduce glare. It can do so either automatically or on demand. Halio can be used in commercial and residential buildings, in applications ranging from façades to skylights to interior walls and partitions. Kinestral Technologies has begun shipping Halio smart-tinting glass from its first large-scale factory located in Miaoli, Taiwan.

To the Finish Line

Consolidated Glass Holdings (CGH), has launched its Invisiwall shower enclosures, a complete glass-and-hardware solution for commercial shower applications. Invisiwall shower enclosures are sold exclusively through CGH Architectural companies J.E. Berkowitz, Columbia Commercial Building Products and Solar Seal. Pairing quality glass with multiple hardware combinations, Invisiwall shower enclosures provide a frameless and modern, high-end finish for large and small commercial projects. Available with standard clear glass or low-iron glass for increased transparency, Invisiwall shower enclosures also can be custom fabricated with acid-etched, sandblasted, silkscreened, decorative cracked and other glass types. A variety of shower door hardware is available in brushed nickel, polished chrome, polished nickel and oil-rubbed bronze. Other finishes are available upon request.


Bent Into Shape

The BSV-B45NK bending machine from Lisec has been re-designed to accommodate new developments in spacer materials. One of its new functions is the integration of zeroeradius corner (ZRC) technology. The process allows tension-free, material-displacement manufacturing of 90-degree corners. The highlight of the ZRC technology is the self-stiffening corner, which was developed specially for fiber-reinforced spacers. It produces a stable and consistent 90-degree angle. A further advantage of this technology is the maximized butyl application area in the corner. The bending process is supported by a robotic arm. The machine processes aluminum, steel, stainless steel, hybrid and fiberglass-reinforced profiles. It can be operated via touchscreen.
