Lifting & Handling Equipment

Smart Manipulation

SmartLift US now offers a new mobile glass manipulator: the Sl608HL. This lifter has a max lifting capacity of 1,340 pounds and requires no hydraulics for operation while providing the operator with 1/64-inch precision movement. Able to fit through a standard 36-inch door, it has the ability to work both outdoors and indoors. The manipulator comes standard with a remote control, side shift, foam filled tires, outriggers and a service guarantee.

Robot Takes the Floor

Erdman released the Unmanned Robotic IG Work Cell with the intention of saving energy and space, according to the company. This robot produces large size insulating glass (IG) up to 5 by 12 feet with no direct labor, which enhances safety because all heavy lifting is performed by robots. The use of robots not only minimizes labor, but also reduces the amount of floor space by roughly half. The target cycle times are one, 5-by-12 foot IG unit every minute without gas filling, and every 90 seconds with gas filling. The floor space needed is approximately 20 by 75 feet. The robotic work cell system will run consistently to produce 1,440 units of non-gas filled glass per 24 hours at 100% efficiency, according to the company.

Machinery & Equipment

Simple Cutting

Jordon Glass Machinery’s JG-LamiCut-2620 laminated-glass cutting table can cut up to 96-inch by 72-inch laminated glass sheets with a thickness range of 3 mm + 0.38 mm + 3 mm to 10 mm 3.04 mm + 10 mm. The cutting method consists of top and bottom scorers followed by pressure-breaking wheels and heating lamps. The table comes complete with holding clamps, air flotation and touch screen PLC. The JG-LamiCut-2620 offers a simple and economical way to cut laminated glass sheets and is ideal for small- to medium-sized window fabrication shops, according to the company. The JG-Lamicut-3826 for a maximum of 96-inch by 144-inch glass sheets is also available.

Fire-rated Glass

For Clarity of Mind

Safti First’s patent-pending, 45-minute fire-protective products SuperClear 45-HS-LI and SuperClear 45-HS are now approved glazing components in the National Fenestration Rating Council’s (NFRC) Component Modeling Approach Software Tool (CMAST) database. Users can now simulate the U-factor, Solar Heat Gain Coefficient and Visual Light Transmission of 45-minute exterior window assemblies that incorporate SuperClear 45-HS-LI and SuperClear 45-HS, GPX Framing and any other glazing or spacer component available in the CMAST database. This glazing can be used in 45-minute openings, sidelites and transoms up to a maximum clear view area of 3,880 square inches and in 45-minute doors up to a maximum clear view area of 3,288 square inches. It meets all the fire, hose stream and safety requirements without the use of wires, films or laminates. Both versions are ¾-inch, optically clear glazing and SuperClear 45-HS-LI has an approximate visible light transmission of 90%, compared to 88% for premium filmed ceramic and 85% for premium laminated ceramic. Both can be used in insulating, obscure, decorative or filmed make-ups. SuperClear 45-HS-LI and SuperClear 45-HS have a 37 STC/35 OITC rating in standard hollow metal framing.

Shower Doors & Hardware

Frameless Fabrication Tempco Glass Fabrication now offers a full line of hardware to complement its existing frameless shower glass offerings. It is supplying a selection of wall-to-glass and glass-to-glass hinges, fixed panel clamps, wall mount brackets and two sizes of tubular back-to-back pull handles. Door and glass seals and sweeps are also available. The new hardware is offered in either chrome finish or polished nickel. In addition, the company supplies a frameless sliding glass shower door hardware kit.
The kit comes complete with 72-inch top header bar, four-roller system, pulls and seals. The sliding hardware is available in either a stainless steel or brass plated finish. Tempco also fabricates 3/8- and ½-inch thick tempered glass with notching, cut-outs and drilled holes, in sizes suitable for virtually all frameless or framed shower enclosure applications. Shower glass options include obscured, acid-etching, digital design printing and color-tinting.

Bringing Down Downtime

The Click-Fit, from Salem Flat Glass & Mirror in partnership with BDT, is a cup wheel mounting system that accommodates the needs of machine operators, production and purchasing personnel as well as management, according to the company. Used in the pre-processing of flat glass in both grinding and polishing applications, the Click-Fit product line allows fabricators to utilize a universal mechanical connection by installing an adapter to each spindle. Once the adapter is in place, any wheel type can be connected to any make or model machine using the patented universal locking technology. This can help reduce inventory for different machines. The Click-Fit system reduces downtime for wheel changes, by a minimum 60%, with an on/off “click” technology. Salem also offers the Thunder Cut, a new generation series of stainless-steel body core drills that can provide 2-plus mm/second feed-rates, and reduced drilling cycle times. These drills are produced in multiple working lengths for both manual and automated (CNC) machinery from a variety of equipment manufacturers. The Thunder Cut does not require dressing of the bond in order to maintain its ultimate performance, which prevents additional downtime. With increased feed-rates, cycle times are also reduced.

A Budget-Friendly Option

Acuity low-iron glass by Vitro Architectural Glass is a cost-effective upgrade to conventional clear glass that offers high clarity for visions glass applications and a true rendition of colored spandrel glass panels. Acuity glass is formulated for use with Solarban solar control, low-E glasses and available through members of the Vitro Certified Network. It’s designed to eliminate the green cast inherent in conventional clear glass to create a more brilliant aesthetic without compromising project budgets or energy performance, according to the company.

Customizable Transportation

MyGlassTruck’s Patriot family of glass truck bodies is available for a wide array of trucks and offers more cargo and weight capacity than the company’s Atlas glass truck bodies. The Patriot LT can be installed on Class 3-5 trucks and the Patriot HD can be installed on Class 5 and higher vehicles. Some of the standout features of a Patriot include up to 10-foot high racks and extra deep ledges. With available lengths up to 28-feet, glass
companies can carry extra-long or wide sheets of glass. A walkway in between the racks provides plenty of extra cargo space, according to the company. Every Patriot glass body is built from the ground up to the customer’s exact specifications.
