Bird-Friendly Patterns

Guardian Glass North America now offers its Bird1st Etch on translucent glass in four distinct, bird-friendly patterns for exterior building applications. The glass products include Threat Factor scores to quantify collision-avoidance effectiveness.

Bird1st Etch products are available on Guardian UltraClear low-iron glass and standard clear glass and can be paired with SunGuard SuperNeutral 68, SNX 62/27 and SNX 51/23 coatings on the same lite of glass, as part of an insulating glass unit. The glass can be heat-treated and used with laminated glass for safety and other benefits. Bird1st Etch
glass is currently available in 96- by 130-inches on 6-mm thick float glass through the Guardian Select Fabricator network.

No More Bacteria on the V-Block

Şişecam has completed the approval and certification process from the Ministry of Health for its special V-Block coating technology, which it says neutralizes viruses and bacteria on glass surfaces. The company reports that results of tests, conducted by laboratories in Turkey, authorized by the Ministry of Health, have confirmed that the technology is effective against many different viruses and bacteria, including the coronavirus. The coating technology is applied via chemical vapor deposition under high temperatures during production. It will initially be used on glassware, with mass production of products treated with the technology slated to begin early this year and initially offered for sale in Turkey. Due to its active nature, the coating is also ideal for use in spaces with high-contamination risk, such as hotels, restaurants, cafes, hospitals and cafeterias, as well as household use.

Handling & Transportation

Shipping Solutions

UFP Industrial designs and builds solutions for glass transportation, and has capabilities to accommodate large architectural lites or highly-precise plates for technical applications. Among UFP’s shipping options are end caps, A-frames, L-racks, crates/boxes, pallets and skids. The company can also cut OSB and plywood to size.

Machinery & Equipment

A Strong Foundation

The Foundation Series washer from Billco is designed to produce a mid- to high-volume of production output depending on the requirements. It’s available in a 96-inch working width, and has interchangeable parts, reducing inventory requirements for replacements. The series can anchor any tempering, laminating or insulating line.

Vertical Reach

The vertical washer from HHH Equipment Resources is a 3-in-1 washer designed to remove all particles and contaminants from insulating glass. Featuring a fully automated system that detects and adjusts to glass thickness, technicians need only to prepare the insulating glass sheets and the vertical washer automatically loads, washes and dries the glass. Three pairs of brushes and air-knives work with the high-pressure blower to remove all contaminants.

MaxBlock the Shade

Tubelite Inc. has introduced Max Block single blade sun shades with a single, horizontal, airfoil-shaped blade in six- and nine-inch depths, with widths spanning up to 149 inches.

The sun shades can be manufactured with recycled aluminum content, and can be finished in a choice of anodize, painted coatings or simulated woodgrain powdercoat.

Tubelite says the horizontal airfoil blades’ design directs wind and water out and away from the building. They span up to 96 inches un-spliced, and up to 149 inches spliced. The two-piece bracket fastens at the pressure plate area and can be detached in individual sections to accommodate future reglazing applications. The sun shades integrate with the company’s storefront and 400 Series curtainwall systems, and complement its interior aLuminate light shelves.
