The renovation of the Milken Center for Advancement of the American Dream in Washington, D.C., unites three landmark buildings into a single, cohesive museum space. The updated building features an all-glass façade and overhead structure connecting two historic buildings (1501 and 1503 Pennsylvania Avenue).
Sentech Architectural Systems provided design-assist, engineering and materials for several of the project’s structural-glass systems, including the five-story atrium façade and glass roof, a 2,300-square-foot glass-fin skylight, the structural system supporting the restored 1,500 square foot stained-glass laylight, the sixth-floor glass addition and a glass staircase. Grunley and Innovo were the general and glazing contractors, respectively.
To reimagine the historic buildings, Sentech officials say the company relied on digital software and collaboration to overcome complex structural and logistical constraints inherent with renovations of buildings built in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
