This week, we look at the December 1988 issue—one marked by many firsts.

For one, Leed Architectural Products Inc., based in Hamden, Conn., published an ad touting that it now offers painted storefronts.


In the legal arena, the first decision was handed down regarding product liability involving a window screen. The author warned, “Manufacturers should be prepared for similar lawsuits from plaintiffs’ attorneys seeking to establish a new theory of product liability.” We now know he couldn’t have been more correct.

USGlass also published an article on boxed glass and how this category can deliver additional profits for hardware stores. “Responses demonstrate that glass cutting gives hardware stores a customer service advantage over DYI and home center chains that don’t offer the capability,” reads the article.
