  1. Debra — Most interesting as 1970 was 3 years before I started Harmon Contract for Apogee. Apogee had just gone public and Viracon was just getting a start in Owatonna , MN. — The glass industry was dominated by PPG & LOF with Guardian just a vision in Bill Davidson’s plans. Dee Hubbard was probably selling windshields some place in the market. I attended my first FGMA National convention in 1974 and PPG & LOF collaborated with extraordinary presentations on coated glass to combat the need for energy efficiencies which marked a water shed time for the entire industry. Russ Baumgardner , founder of Apogee , often remarked in times like this ” We ain’t seen nothing yet ” . Very appropriate then and now.

    So nice to hear from you–and thanks for the memories about some amazing glass industry pioneers–Bill Davidson, Dee Hubbard, Russ Baumgardner. I had the pleasure of interviewing all three men over the years and learned a ton from each of them. Thanks for bringing their legacies to mind.
