Tim Moore Receives C. Gregory Carney Award

Tim Moore, vice president of process engineering at W. A. Wilson & Sons in Wheeling, West Va., was recognized with the C. Gregory Carney Award during the National Glass Association’s (NGA) Annual Conference, which took place January 24-26 in Miramar Beach, Fla.

The award has been presented since 2014 to an individual dedicated to advancing glass and glazing, promoting its use, and advocating what is right for the industry.

Urmilla Sowell presented the C. Gregory Carney Award to Tim Moore during the recent Glass Conference.

In presenting the award, technical and advocacy director Urmilla Sowell described Moore as a humble and dependable worker. She said he has set best practices in many of the association’s glass technical papers (previously known as glass informational bulletins) and was involved in many association standards that became ASTM standards.

She said Moore is a “quiet advocate for education and raising the bar.” He also is a thinker and educator and is always willing to help. She even shared that Moore has been known to read the dictionary front to back to expand his vocabulary. He looks for the collective opportunity to problem solve; he will lead you to the solution but will not give you the answer.

In accepting the award, Moore, who described himself as “a person of few words,” said it was quite an honor.

“I’m not sure what to say, except thank you,” he said.

The association also recognized several other member volunteers during the conference. They included: Rob Carlson with Tristar Glass; Marc Deschamps with Walker Glass; Jon Griggs with Guardian Glass; Kayla Natividad with Pilkington North America; and Julia Schimmelpenningh with Eastman Chemical.
