Long Island is the home to this year’s Glass Expo Northeast™. The event takes place March 27-28 at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale, N.Y. From Teddy Roosevelt, to Charles Lindbergh and Walt Whitman, many American legends are enshrined in Long Island. Here is a look at some of the more recent famous Long Islanders who grew up near the Glass Expo Northeast™ venue:

Billy Joel – Born in the Bronx and raised in Hicksville, Joel is Long Island through and through. Joel’s first hit song, “Piano Man,” was released in 1973, which was soon followed by many other hits such as; “Uptown Girl,” “You May Be Right,” and “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me.” Joel still lives on Long Island and has a motorcycle shop in Oyster Bay.

Jerry Seinfeld – Growing up in Massapequa, Seinfeld developed an interest in comedy and is known for his television show, Seinfeld, and stand-up comedy.

Judd Apatow – Apatow is well-known for filmmaking and was raised in Syosset. He developed well known TV series such as Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared and Girls, and iconic films such as The Cable Guy, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

Pat Benetar – Born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island in Lindenhurst, Benetar is best known for her singing career that has earned her numerous Grammy Awards. Hits like “Hit Me with Your Best Shot,” “Love Is a Battlefield” and “We Belong” are guaranteed to be on any ’80s themed party’s playlist.

The Baldwins – Alec, Daniel, Billy and Stephen Baldwin were all born on Long Island. Except for Alec Baldwin being born in Amityville, all the other brothers were born in Massapequa. They are all well known for acting in many films and TV shows.

Mariah Carey – Carey was born in Huntington and became a singer, songwriter, producer and actress. With many chart-topping songs, Carey has rocked the music and acting world with her talent. Carey rose to stardom in 1990 after the release of her self-titled album.

Eddie Murphy – Raised in Roosevelt, Murphy is known for his comedy, acting, writing, singing, directing and music. His career has spanned from Saturday Night Live, Coming to America, Shrek and The Nutty Professor.

Dee Snider – Daniel “Dee” Snider is famous for his role as the front-man for the heavy metal band, Twisted Sister. The most successful singles from his band are “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and “I Wanna Rock.” He is from Baldwin, N.Y. (also the hometown of USGlass publisher Debra Levy).
