Glass Expo Northeast™ (GENE) ’19 is headed to the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale, N.Y., March 27-28 (Wednesday and Thursday). GENE offers attendees two jam-packed days of top-notch educational seminars, vital networking opportunities and a bustling trade show floor filled with exhibitors.

Long Island’s proximity to New York City affords visitors a chance for a quick excursion to the Big Apple, but if you’re looking for something close by, there’s still plenty to see and do. Since the show ends on a Thursday, why not make it a long weekend and check out the following activities?

Cradle of Aviation Museum (0.6 miles from Long Island Marriott)

The Cradle of Aviation Museum offers visitors the chance to discover more than 75 air and space craft, from a hot air balloon to an actual Apollo Lunar Module. You can also learn about Long Island’s role and why it is called the Cradle of Aviation. The museum’s eight exhibit galleries are in chronological order, with volunteer guides found throughout to share their aerospace experience. There are also more than 30 hands-on exhibits, a half dozen cockpits to climb into and many short films.

Firefighters Museum and Education Center (0.8 miles from Long Island Marriott)

The Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center provides a unique setting for the preservation and interpretation of local volunteer fire services heritage via the collection, restoration and exhibition of historic and contemporary firematic memorabilia and equipment. A major goal of the Center is to educate and inform the public about fire safety and prevention and to display the history of volunteer firefighting in Nassau County. The visitor center is open Saturday through Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and conveniently houses a café, museum store and restrooms.

Eisenhower Park (1 mile from Long Island Marriott)

Eisenhower Park boasts that it is “a 930-acre oasis of open space and recreation,” and is one of the largest public spaces in the New York metropolitan area – even larger than Central Park. The park offers a full range of athletic and family activities, including a major golf facility, dozens of athletic fields and courts, picnic areas, fitness trails and more.
