Every Thursday leading up to USGlass magazine’s 50th Anniversary celebration in August, USGNN.com™ is taking a look back at past issues and highlighting advertisements, stories and images that ran throughout the publication’s half-century life. This week, we’re getting back in the car.

USGlass used to encompass the automotive sector in its coverage, prior to the launch of AGRR™ magazine in 2000. Featured in the Auto Glass Special issue of September/October 1986 was a headline still very much relevant today: “Glass Repair Evolves, Offers A ‘Competitive Edge.’”

“Glass repair gives us a competitive edge,” the first paragraph of the story reads. “It gives us another service that the glass shop down the street may not offer, and that helps bring in business.”

Three decades later, shops are still learning of the advantages adding repair capabilities can provide. Just as recently as last fall at Auto Glass Week, in fact, National Windshield Repair Association past president Rich Campfield gave AGRR company owners an education seminar on the exact topic. Additionally, the cover story in the most recent issue of AGRR magazine is “The Future of Repair-Only Companies.”
